RaidCo, Usha School dign accord
Staff Reporter
KANNUR: Raidco and the Usha School of Athletics, run by sprint queen P.T. Usha, on Saturday signed an agreement under which the former would supply its food products and provisions required for students in the school and Usha would serve as brand ambassador for Raidco products.
Raidco chairman T. Krishnan and Usha told a press conference here that the agreement would be valid till 2012.

The aim of this agreement was to support young athletes in their ambitious endeavour to win at least a single medal in the 2012 Olympics, they said.
Mr. Krishnan said that Raidco would supply food products and provisions produced and marketed by it to the school every month.

Major plans
A certain percentage of its profit would also be set apart for the school, he said. Raidco would also set up a 50,000-litre capacity rainwater-harvesting tank on the school campus, he added.
The Raidco chairman also said that a plan to produce and market energy drink for sportspersons was in the pipeline.

Usha welcomed the initiative of Raidco to support the school. This backing when the institution was hardly four years old mattered more than sponsorship that it might secure when its students started winning medals, she said.

Usha School gets a new Hostel Block

PT Usha was all in smiles on December 2nd when she came for the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new hostel block at Kinaloor near Calicut. Government of Kerala had contributed 30 acres of land at Kinaloor for Usha School of Athletics. Construction of the 8870 sq. ft hostel block is a charity project by Bangalore based Sobha Developers headed by Mr. PNC Menon and Mrs. Sobha Menon.
It was a long cherished dream of P T Usha to give modern amenities to USHAites as the young girls undergo rigorous training. At present they are accommodated in a rented building near Koyilandy where facilities are minimal. Usha was not able to accommodate more students due to various constraints. P T Usha is emphatic when she says "Unlike in our times where we had no proper facilities, I want my students to get the best possible training and living standards comparable with their counterparts in USA or Europe."

Mr. PNC Menon, a strong supporter of Usha, came forward to construct and donate a modern hostel block for Usha School at a cost of Rs. 1.63 crore. The foundation stone was laid jointly by Col. Menon, Director Sobha Group and P T Usha in function held at the venue.

The building consists of:
(1) A Main Block with Rooms, Corridor, Wash Area, Balcony, WC, Bath, Dress Drying Area, Courtyard and Ramp
 (2) A Service Block with Dining, Kitchen, Store, Service Bay, Toilet, Laundry, Wash Area, Pantry and Hand Wash
(3) An Administrative Block with Office, Warden Room, Lobby, TV Room, Isolation Room, Toilets and Open Area. The work is scheduled to be completed by 30th June 17.
